It is a well-known fact that the fast-paced development and modern living has resulted in a change of people lifestyle towards less exercise and an unhealthy diet. Poor eating patterns can cause diet related illness in late life if we do not take eating nutritional food seriously. Tons of fruit got rotten every day and they are thrown into the trash. According to Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, roughly one third of the food produced for human consumption gets lost or wasted, and among which fruits and vegetables have the highest wastage rates.
Our smart refrigerator system keeps track of fruits in refrigerator, and remind user to eat them before they are rotten. Moreover, our system keep records of user’s historical intaking nutrition and provide fruits recommendation to help user lives a healthier life.
The main challenge of the system is to provide an intellectual solution for user to keep the records. Instead of asking user to input data manually, the key concept of our system is to provide automatic data collection. To achieve this goal, our system needs accurate image recognition. We implemented deep learning models to solve this problem.
